The start to their UK Championship defence may not have been plain sailing, but James Norvill and Charlie Parsons-Young hit the ground running across the Atlantic, reports former P1 racer Richard Carr.
4 out of 5!
GD Environmental stormed in to an early lead of the P1 Superstock Championship with four race wins from five at the 2nd annual P1 St Johns River Grand Prix in Jacksonville.
7,000 spectators lined the waters of the St Johns River in Memorial Park to witness GD Environmental steal the show. Their performance was almost as hot as the searing temperatures in Jacksonville.
Having stormed through Saturday’s two races picking up 37 points from a possible 40; Norvill and Parsons-Young were the team beat. However, a perfect display of powerboat racing left their rivals in their wake with three wins from three.
Norvill told p1superstockusa.com: “we had a tough time in the UK last weekend with engine problems so we came out here with a point to prove”.
Lycamobile were GD’s closest rivals through the weekend and left Jacksonville in second place. Bill and Elijah Kingery (Alisyn Oil) were troubled with engine problems throughout the weekend, whilst debutant Jimmy Hill finished an impressive seventh.
“We didn’t expect to compete out the front but we got faster each race and I think we will be competing in the next few rounds. I can’t wait to get out there and represent this great city,” Hill told p1superstockusa.com.
