UIM Class 1 World Championships returns this weekend

In Richard Carr’s latest www.richardcarrracing.co.uk post, the former British Champion powerboat racer looks ahead to Round 2 of the C1 and V1 World Powerboat Championships in Terracina.

Terracina returns after impressive debut

13 boats will line-up in Terraccina, Italy this weekend (17-19 October) for Round 2 of the UIM C1 and V1 World Powerboat Championships. Last year the C1 catamarans made their debut at the idyllic venue, whilst it will be a debut for the V1 monohulls.

The picturesque Terraccina is, after just one meeting, regarded as a new jewel in the Class 1 Championship’s crown. However, it wasn’t just the scenery that wowed supporters last year: the action on the seas was arguably the most exciting of last year’s series.

Local favourites Fendi Racing put home advantage to good use with a richly deserved and popular European Championship win.

Fendi aiming to do the double

Fendi will have to be at their very best if they are to achieve back to back victories. Leading out the six C1 boats this weekend will be defending World Champions Victory, with Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir Bin Hendi aiming to build on their success in Ibiza.

Luca Fendi and Giovanni Carpitella (Fendi Racing) will travel just two kilometres from their headquarters at Nautica Badino to compete and having been the first team in recent times to match the pace of Victory in qualifying, as they did last time out, they will be no doubt looking to push them all the way.

Plenty of challenges in open V1 Championship

Seven teams will line up this weekend in what is proving a highly competitive championship. Currently, Maltese outfit Chaudron lead the standings after finishing on the podium in Race 1 and winning Race 2 in Ibiza.

Chaudron’s challenge is likely to come from two all-Italian crews. Team Tommy One won Race 1 in Ibiza, whilst father and son duo Antonio and Giuseppe Schiano shared duties with Federico Montanari to secure two podium finishes
