Rounds 9 and 10 of the RYA National Thundercat Championship will take place at the scenic 360 Beach and Watersports Centre situated at the heart of Swansea Bay, writes former power boat racer Richard Carr.
360 Beach and Watersports
The fantastic centre only opened three years ago in 2012 and provides facilities for individuals and groups of all ages and ability the opportunity to try a range of sports and activities. As well as being a multi-sport facility, it has an on-site café bar offering brilliant views of Swansea Bay.
James Tapp will travel to Swansea still with a convincing lead in the drivers’ standings, despite recording one of his worst results of the season in round 8 at Southsea.
Tapp is currently 40 points (two race victories) ahead of his nearest challenger Rob Davies, who is yet to stand on the top step of the podium.
Bligh Julius will likely be Tapp’s biggest threat following his impressive weekend at Southsea, which garnered 35 from a possible 40 points. Julius currently has 73 points and sits in fourth place, however at the both Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach meets he picked up just one point.
Rounds 7 and 8 review
James Tapp and Ed Redman won all but one of the heats in round 7 to finish ahead of Rob Davies and Bligh Julius respectfully.
Round 8 saw Julius soar to the front with Tapp crashing out in the final. World Champion Sean Fisher and Damion Bowen finished an impressive second.
About Richard Carr
