Richard Carr in the Archives: Full Throttle Magazine

Richard Carr made a welcome return to the world of powerboating back in 2007 when he entered the UIM Powerboat P1 series to race in the Evolution Class.

Carr back from a 15 year break

Richard Carr is one of the UK’s most experienced and successful powerboat racers, who has competed in the sport globally.

He has won numerous domestic and international honours: he became British Class 1 Champion in 1991; he was the winner of the coveted Needles Trophy and he also came second in the Cowes Torquay Cowes race in 1992. It was the year the race was controversially competed in the fog and it has been argued for many years that he actually won the race.

Prior to announcing his comeback in 2007, Carr had been away from offshore racing scene for almost 15 years.

Detailed plans well drawn out

Before announcing his return, Richard had followed the Powerboat P1 championship closely for three seasons.

The boat that he commissioned to be built was revolutionary. A carbon fiber/Kevlar epoxy composite Skater 399 Vee Hull was developed at the Douglas Marine HQ in Michigan. The boat was specifically designed to be fitted with custom Surface Drives from Arneson Industries.

Sponsorship for the 2007 season had been secured from Honeyparty.com.

The Full Throttle article has been recently uploaded to Richard Carr’s archive section.

Richard took delivery of his new Skater monohull, but found that it was too late to enter the 2007. He raced the boat in the Key West and at the time of the magazine article was debuting whether to compete in Europe or the US.

As it turned out, Richard opted to race in Europe in the P1 Powerboat Evolution Class. A review of the season is available to watch on Richard’s official YouTube channel.

An exclusive interview with Richard about the season will feature on www.richardcarrracing.co.uk next week.
