London’s historic Royal Docks provided the venue for the launch of Powerboat P1’s highly anticipated new UK season.
A mixture of sponsors, partners, suppliers and representatives from host venues in the UK and abroad and members of the media were invited to the launch press conference. Following a detailed discussions ahead of the new season, guests then enjoyed experience riders in the P1 Panther race boats.
Yorkshire’s historical coastal town Scarborough will host the first weekend of P1 racing in late May. However, the 2015 season has already got underway across the Atlantic with the P1 USA AquaX series having started at Daytona Beach in late April. A fantastic field of 90 riders hit the waters off Daytona in tough conditions.
Much has been made of this year’s Powerboat P1 championship on the back of a tough 2014. To whet the appetite, P1 announced a 50-race powerboat and Jet Ski series around the UK coast, together with a similar race programme in the USA
This summer the P1 Powerboat series is expected to attract a live audience of 150,000 spectators around the UK, whilst all the action from the five championship rounds will be show on Sky Sports and Motors TV.

Richard Carr, of Poole, is one of the UK’s most experienced and successful powerboat racers, who has competed in the sport globally.
He has won numerous domestic and international honours: he became British Class 1 Champion in 1991; he was the winner of the coveted Needles Trophy and he also came second in the Cowes Torquay Cowes race in 1992. It was the year the race was controversially competed in the fog and it has been argued for many years that he actually won the race.
He is known in the sport for his aggressive racing character in rough seas and recently raced in the USA for Geico in 2011.
