London Boat Show back on the up

This year’s London Boat Show has bucked the trend by recording a 4% rise in visitor numbers, reports former powerboat racer Richard Carr.

Four-year trend reversed

Organisers of the show reported a welcomed rise in numbers visiting the ten day show, following four years of falling attendances.

Held at the Excel Centre, London, the show welcomed 92,288 visitors over the ten days, a 4% increase on 2014’s figure of 88,593.

Pop star proves a hit

Could it have been the added glitz and glamour of this year’s event that helped boost visitor numbers? Pop star and girlfriend of F1 Champion, Nicole Scherzinger, attended the press preview day and her presence saw large crowd flocks to the show as she launched the Sunseeker Predator 57.

Other boat launches across the duration of the show included the Fairline Shadow S, Jeanneau Velasco 37F, whilst industry giant Beneteau made its comeback following a four-year absence.

Murray Ellis, managing director of the CWM FX London Boat Show said: “Visitor feedback has been really positive, there’s been positive energy creating a fantastic atmosphere which has contributed to good sales.”

New features help generate interest

Visitors were welcomed into the show via an awe-inspiring wall of rain, whilst a technologically ground breaking digital information wall helped guide visitors around the attractions.

The boat show also hosted a 4D experience, which gave visitors the opportunity to experience six environments out at sea from the Artic to the Tropics.

Next year’s London Boat Show will take place at the Excel Centre from 8-17 January 2016.
