Most intriguing title race for years
Richard, who raced until 2011, believes the 2014 season has been one of the closest fought in years with three teams vying for the title ahead of the Gosport Grand Prix of the Sea earlier this month.
Norvill and Charlie Parsons-Young began the weekend in joint second, just seven points behind leaders John Wilson and Daisy Coleman in the Pertemps boat. The other challengers were Buckinghamshire duo Nick Williams and Martin Robinson who crewed IFX Racing.
Reliability can always be a cruel mistress in any sport and at the worst possible time it struck to virtually end the Pertemps crew’s hopes of title glory. A gearbox failure left them slumped on the start line and Norvill and Parsons-Young took full advantage in their GD Environmental boat, taking the chequered flag ahead of IFX Racing.
GD Environmental complete clean sweep
In the surprisingly clam conditions on Sunday, Norvill and Parsons-Young drove stylishly to win both races. IFX Racing managed engine problems to clinch second placed in the Championship with Wilson and Coleman having to settle for third.
