On richardcarrracing.co.uk today, we rewind back to 2008 and look back at Richard Carr’s first win in the 2008 Powerboat P1 Evolution Class season.
Richard Carr is one of the UK’s most experienced and successful powerboat racers, who has competed in the sport globally.
He has won numerous domestic and international honours: he became British Class 1 Champion in 1991; he was the winner of the coveted Needles Trophy and he also came second in the Cowes Torquay Cowes race in 1992. It was the year the race was controversially competed in the fog and it has been argued for many years that he actually won the race.
He is known in the sport for his aggressive racing character in rough seas and recently raced in the USA for Geico in 2011.
honeyparty.com wins Vigo Sprint Race
Qualifying fourth on the grid, honeyparty.com looked dangerous from the off in Vigo and were quickly on the heels of the leaders. Richard Carr and Mark Pascoe, throttle man and pilot respectively, handled the waves expertly to take the lead mid-way through the race.
The pair held on comfortable – even lapping some of their competitors – to record their first victory of a troublesome season.
honeyparty.com had looked quick and competitive in every race of the season, but the team were regularly thwarted by mechanical issues.
Richard Carr and honeyparty.com followed up their first win with a third place finish in the endurance race on the Sunday. The result gave the British team the overall victory in the Vigo Grand Prix of the Sea on aggregate, ahead of Pignolo 53 and Centaurian Yachts.
