Alan Priddy unveils round-the-world powerboat

Former powerboat racer Richard Carr has previously expressed his support of ocean racing legend Alan Priddy and now he is delighted to see his round-the-world powerboat unveiled.

£2.9 million, 80ft powerboat set to be built

This week, Alan invited the local press in Portsmouth down to ABC Marine, to reveal Hayling’s ABC Marine as the builder of his £2.9m powerboat.

The 80ft boat will have two flights of stairs and be big enough to sleep 14 people, what a boat!

He is hoping to chop seven days off the current around the world record, which stands at 60 days.

Orders flying in for replicas

Since Alan revealed his plans, he has received 15 orders from overseas buyers for the exact same model of the powerboat.

If test runs of his boat are successful in the summer, Alan told the Portsmouth News that he would look to find industrial space around Portsmouth and complete the orders. In doing so, it will create 150 jobs in the region, on top of the 25 that have already been created to build his boat.

Speaking from the ABC Marine to the Portsmouth News, he said: “This is the day that we turned the tap on for everything to happen.

“We’ve managed to put together a best of British team – British designers and manufacturers.

“Work has already started. The metals have been ordered from the foundry and will be sent to Southampton for laser cutting.

“We’ll have the boat on the water in June, painted and all ready to go.”

Alan’s bid to break the record will begin in November and start and finish in Gibraltar. For more information visit www.circumnavigationrecord.com.
